How Do I Block Pave?
Preparation: Excavate the area to the required depth, and ensure the base is firm, level, and well-compacted.
Base Layer: Lay a sub-base of crushed stone or aggregate and compact it thoroughly. This provides a stable foundation for the paving blocks.
Bedding Layer: Spread a layer of sharp sand over the compacted sub-base. Level the sand to create an even surface.
Laying the Blocks: Start laying the blocks from a straight edge, such as a building or existing paving, working towards the edges. Place each block tightly against the next, ensuring they are level.
Cutting: Use a block splitter or saw to cut blocks to fit around the edges or obstacles.
Edging: Install edge restraints, such as concrete kerbs or edge stones, to secure the perimeter of the paving and prevent movement.
Compaction and Jointing: Once all blocks are laid, compact the entire surface with a plate compactor to ensure they are firmly set in place. Fill the joints between blocks.
