What is a jib crane?

A wall-mounted jib crane is a lifting device with a horizontal arm (jib) that supports and moves loads efficiently. Unlike freestanding models, this type is mounted directly to a wall or column, making it ideal for spaces where floor-mounted cranes are impractical.

How does a jib crane work?

At its core, a jib crane consists of a horizontal bar, also known as the jib or boom, a lifting device and a trolley. The jib arm is mounted to a vertical surface, such as a wall or column, or can be freestanding and mounted to the floor. The configuration of your mount will allow the jib arm to rotate on its axis, also known as slewing. Depending on the crane’s design, you can gain extensive rotational coverage, with some models and designs providing an entire 360º range. The lifting device is the system that handles the lifting load function. Standard lifting devices include electric hoists, chain hoists, manual chain hoists, and, if required, a bespoke lifting system. The trolley is attached to the lifting device and slides horizontally across the jib arm.
