What is a Column-Mounted Jib Crane?

The column-mounted jib crane is made up of two main parts: the arm itself and the fixing brackets to connect the jib to the column/steelwork. The horizontal arm is what the hoist will fit on. The arm is connected to the column with a strong low maintenance locking pin - the arm will swing or slew from left to right up to an angle of 270°. This arc can be restricted with slewing locks if required. The jib arm can be manufactured at a length to suit your requirements.

What is a Manual Hoist?

A manual hoist is a mechanical lifting device used to raise and lower heavy loads by applying human force. Typically operated by a hand chain or lever, it employs a system of gears and a pulley to provide mechanical advantage, making it easier to lift substantial weights with minimal effort. Manual hoists are commonly used in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and warehousing, where electricity is unavailable or where portability and simplicity are essential. They are valued for their durability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness, especially in situations requiring infrequent or light-to-moderate lifting tasks.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COLUMN-MOUNTED JIB CRANE

Before contacting Ultimate Lifting Solutions you will need to know the following information on how to choose your jib crane...

What capacity/SWL/WLL (Safe Working Load) working load limit?

What do you need the jib to be? We suggest this be as close as possible to the weight of the heaviest component you will be lifting. So, if your object is 100Kgs, choose the 125Kgs jib.

What outreach is required?

This means the length of the jib arm. Take into consideration where you need this jib arm to reach, and keep in mind any restrictions.

What height jib do I need?

This is commonly known as the height of lift. Tell us the size of the item to be lifted, tell us what you need to lift onto and whether you are subject to any height restrictions.

Do you require a hoist?

The most commonly fitted hoist is the electric hoist, which will speed up production time and aids the operator. We also supply manually operated hoists, tools and spring balancers to aid small production lines.

Hoist suspension

Pillar jib cranes are fitted with a push/pull style trolley as standard, which is fine for this type of jib crane up to 1 tonne. If you require an electric trolley, we can supply these as well.

Rotation angle

The rotation angle is commonly known as the slewing angle, and  jib cranes have a 270° slewing angle as standard – but is this enough? Is this too much? Will it hit other objects? If so, we can fit slewing limits if required.

Floor condition

Most jib cranes are installed on a concrete floor by resin anchors. Please note, your floor needs to be a certain thickness and quality – we advise your floor is inspected by a structural engineer to confirm the floor meets the requirements of the jib. Full loading and a drawing can be provided by Ultimate Lifting Solutions to aid you in confirming the stability of the floor.
