Why Choose a 500kg SWL Free Standing Jib Crane - Under-Braced?
It’s all about the headroom.
ULS manufactures the under-braced Jib Crane using a Steel I-Beam as the swinging jib arm and adds all supporting bracing underneath the main crane arm. This design minimizes the required height above the working area, creating a low-headroom solution. It is ideal when headroom is limited due to factors such as working inside a tool room, overhead restrictions like lights or pipes, or when considerations like roof height are important.

All Jib cranes supplied by Ultimate Lifting Solutions, including our Under-braced and Over-braced Jib cranes, are manufactured in the UK, with delivery typically taking 2-3 weeks from design and manufacturing to dispatch (please check availability if delivery time is critical). Thanks to the simple design of our Jib cranes, we supply and deliver all of them as a two-part kit, usually dispatched on standard pallets. Part one is the jib arm, and part two is the main jib pillar crane.
Difference between Over-braced Profile Track and Trolley Jib Cranes vs. Under-braced I Beam Jib Cranes
A Jib Crane made from a steel profile section includes an internal push travel trolley, with the bracing positioned above the working jib arm. In contrast, an I Beam Under-braced Jib Crane is made from a steel I-beam, with the bracing placed underneath. The Profile Jib Crane is lighter and generally more cost-effective, but it requires more headroom and can only accommodate a push trolley. The Under-braced Jib Crane is ideal for low-height situations and is perfect when using a powered trolley.
Why Choose a 500kg SWL Free Standing Jib Crane - Under Braced?
There are several advantages to purchasing an under-braced floor-mounted Jib Crane. The primary benefit is the reduced overall height compared to a standard free-standing over-braced Jib Crane, making it extremely versatile in factories with height restrictions, or where you need the Jib to fit under pipes, lighting, or inside a plant room or tool room. Another advantage of the I-beam style Jib Crane is that it allows for an electric hoist with powered travel to fit neatly onto the Jib arm.
Thanks to its simple design, the crane is affordable to both purchase and maintain compared to other cranes. Under normal working conditions, it only requires an industry-standard service once a year. Ultimate Lifting Solutions offers this service and can provide various maintenance/service packages to meet your needs.
What makes up a 500kg SWL Free Standing Jib Crane - Under Braced?
I-Beam Jib Cranes consist of two main parts: the upright column and the horizontal Jib arm, made from a steel I-beam. Since a manual free-standing I-beam Jib Crane has fewer parts to maintain, it is highly reliable and requires minimal maintenance, ensuring no downtime and no loss in production time.
Easy to Install
These Under-braced free-standing Swing Jibs are easy to install. Once you've verified that your floor is suitable for a swing jib crane, we work with you to design the crane. Ultimate Lifting Solutions arranges the manufacturing and delivery. Upon arrival, the floor simply needs to be drilled, and the floor mounting plate secured. We offer full installation of both the Jib and hoist using our highly trained engineers, or if you prefer to install it yourself, we can offer commissioning and load testing. We provide packages to suit your needs.
How Does an Under-braced Swing Jib Crane Work?
A standard swing Jib consists of two main parts: the pillar and the arm. The arm can rotate left and right, with a swing or slew angle set at 270° by default. All our swing jibs, up to 500kg, can rotate smoothly without the need for powered assistance, keeping costs down. If you don’t need the full 270° rotation, we can fit slew limits to restrict the arm's swing angle.
The arm on our Jib cranes is pre-fitted to accommodate a trolley and hoist. The trolley moves up and down the full length of the arm, providing the reach and flexibility needed to access the corners of your factory with ease.
What Else Is Required for a Free-standing Jib Crane?
Once your Swing Jib is installed, you will need a hoist, which can be easily fitted via a trolley (both push and powered trolleys are available). You’ll need to decide which hoist and trolley style you require. A manual hoist is the most affordable option, but it’s slower and requires manual assistance, which may not be efficient for larger items. The better option is an electric hoist, which allows you to lift and lower components quickly, reducing production time and paying for itself in saved time. Ultimate Lifting Solutions offers a range of electric hoists from top manufacturers such as Stahl, Yale, Demag, GIS, Liftket, and more.
Installation
As mentioned, the low-height Jib Crane is easy to install. Once the floor has been assessed by a structural engineer, the Jib crane location selected, and the floor drilled, the column can be fitted into place over the floor anchors, then levelled and secured. The arm is then fitted and secured with a kingpin, followed by levelling. Once the hoist is installed, the final steps are commissioning, testing, and signing off the Jib as safe to use. Ultimate Lifting Solutions can supply the Jib for self-installation or provide our engineers for a complete installation service. We’ll ensure everything is working correctly and safely before we leave the site.

500kg SWL Free Standing Jib Crane - Under Braced
- All jibs are lubrication-free. The pivot bushes are made of acetal, which eliminates the need for lubrication.
- Manual slewing arm operation.
- Minimal maintenance requirements.
- Clutch-controlled slewing mechanism, which can be tightened or loosened to control how freely the arm pivots.
- Bases are fully welded to the column. In most situations, this eliminates the need for an oversized load-spreading plate or the installation of an anchor frame into concrete, making installation quicker and more cost-effective.

The 500kg SWL Free Standing Jib Crane (under-braced) generally requires minimal service or maintenance. However, operators should regularly inspect the overall condition of both the jib and the hoist connected to it, and any faults should be reported immediately.
To ensure the jib and hoist continue to operate at maximum efficiency and remain compliant with UK legislation, particularly LOLER inspections as set out by the HSE, a maintenance service should be scheduled every 12 months at the latest. This service should be carried out by qualified service engineers.
If you would like to learn more about servicing and general maintenance, please feel free to contact us. We have qualified engineers available and are happy to provide quotes for all your crane servicing needs.
