The Camlok CH Industry Standard Horizontal Plate Clamps are specifically designed for use in pairs to lift and transport single steel plates or bundles, provided the minimum thickness is 5mm. Manufactured in the UK, the CH range delivers top-quality performance, and spare parts are readily available off the shelf.

When used with a two-legged chain sling, a pair of clamps is suitable for handling small plates. For larger plates, it is recommended to use two pairs in conjunction with a spreader beam. These units come standard with smooth jaws, but there is an option for hardened steel teeth for special applications. Additionally, serrated jaws are available, though these can only be used for lifting single plates, not bundles. For more information on special jaw options, please contact us for further details.

NB - The angle between the chains must not exceed 45° from the vertical.

Industry-standard horizontal plate clamps

Product Applications

The CH horizontal plate clamps are specifically designed to be used in pairs for transporting plate bundles, as well as single plates with a minimum thickness of 5mm. A pair of clamps used with a two-legged chain sling is suitable for smaller plates. For handling larger plates, it is recommended to use two pairs of clamps in conjunction with a spreader beam. These units are supplied as standard with smooth jaws, but there is also an option for hardened steel teeth jaws for special applications. Please contact our technical department for further details.

The HH horizontal plate clamps incorporate all the features of the CH clamps but are manufactured from high-strength steel, resulting in exceptionally low tare weights.

NB: These units must NOT be used with endless chain slings.

Care and Maintenance

The maintenance schedule is based on normal usage of clamps in a workshop environment. If clamps are subject to heavy use or operated in adverse conditions, the maintenance frequency must be increased accordingly.

Legal Requirements for Inspection and Certification

Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), plate clamps are classified as lifting accessories. Unless an existing scheme of examination is in place, all lifting clamps must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at intervals not exceeding six months.

Quality in design, performance, and support—Camlok is the leading industry brand for plate clamps and other lifting equipment. In fabrication plants, factories, warehouses, ports and docks, construction sites, railheads, and repair and service facilities around the world, Camlok plate clamps and related products are the number one choice.

The Camlok brand, established over 50 years ago, was founded on original, innovative British design and manufacturing. It evolved from the industrial need to lift and transfer steel plates—whether horizontally, vertically, or a combination of both—securely and safely. This was achieved through an ingenious cam and jaw mechanism that positively locks the steel plate into a clamping device, allowing it to be suspended from a crane hook. The original 'cam-lock' principle paved the way for the wide range of lifting clamps available today, including plate clamps, beam clamps, rail clamps, girder clamps, piling clamps, scissor grabs, and other handling devices. This heritage has given Camlok the expertise to lead the field in creating bespoke non-standard lifting solutions for technically demanding applications.

All products are designed for easy repair and part replacement, ensuring a lifetime of reliable service and performance. Manufactured in the UK to world-class standards, they are supported by hundreds of carefully selected and approved distributors around the globe. These distributors offer full advice, training, parts, and after-sales services, ensuring that Camlok lifting clamps deliver long-lasting, reliable, productive, and cost-effective performance—no matter where you are or what you do.
